ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Portland General Electric is Oregon’s largest electric utility, serving approximately 930,000 customers across a 4,000-square-mile service area. PGE is in the midst of a significant business transformation and is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to partner directly with the Manager of Asset Accounting and Senior Principal Accountant on high-impact systems and process initiatives.
This is not a standard close-the-books accounting role. You’ll be embedded at the intersection of accounting, IT, and business operations – driving the design, testing, and implementation of changes across PGE’s core financial systems. If you enjoy the analytical rigor of accounting but want to work on transformation projects rather than routine transactions, this is an excellent fit.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Partner with Asset Accounting leadership and cross-functional stakeholders (IT, business partners) to support a portfolio of business transformation projects
• Lead detailed design work on proposed system changes – mapping master data future state, building implementation roadmaps, and documenting impact assessments
• Perform user acceptance testing on system changes across Oracle ERP Projects, PowerPlan, and Snowflake Datalake
• Evaluate control considerations and support SOX compliance through system transitions
• Gather and translate ratemaking requirements to ensure changes support regulatory needs
• Communicate updates across Asset Accounting and adjacent groups to drive adoption and alignment
• Provide general accounting and month-end close support as needed
TEAM & TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT
You’ll join a 6-person Asset Accounting team responsible for capital accounting policy, asset-related close and forecasting, budgeting, ratemaking (depreciation, in-service entries, project charges), and ownership of asset accounting system processes. The team partners closely with IT for system upgrades and issue resolution.
Systems you’ll work with
• Oracle ERP Projects – primary enterprise platform for project and asset accounting
• PowerPlan – utility-specific fixed asset and tax management platform
• Snowflake Datalake – data analytics and reporting layer
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 7+ years of corporate accounting experience within a large company environment
• Strong GAAP knowledge (intermediate to advanced) with hands-on experience in journal entries, account reconciliation, and financial close processes
• Direct experience on accounting system projects – e.g., ERP implementations or upgrades, system enhancements, accounting system SOX controls, or IT partnership on financial system initiatives
• Proven ability to manage concurrent projects and shifting priorities in a dynamic environment
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field (7+ years of progressive accounting experience accepted in lieu of a degree)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• CPA certification
• Experience in the utility or regulated energy industry
• Asset accounting or fixed asset management experience (depreciation, capitalization policy, in-service accounting)
• Familiarity with Oracle ERP Projects, PowerPlan, or similar enterprise asset platforms
• Intermediate intercompany accounting and/or merger & acquisition accounting knowledge
• Experience with data platforms such as Snowflake
WHY THIS ROLE
• Work at the center of a major business transformation at one of Oregon’s most established utilities
• Hybrid/remote flexibility with a stable, investment-grade client
• Exposure to Oracle ERP, PowerPlan, and Snowflake – high-demand platforms that strengthen any accounting professional’s career trajectory
• Small, senior team with direct access to leadership – your contributions will have visible impact
• Meaningful work that spans accounting, systems design, and cross-functional strategy
