The Role

 

This opportunity is for a User Experience Specialist contractor who is experienced with performing analysis and designing implementation for a web-based interface and its functions, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role will work with our Technical Documentation and Localization organization to evolve the user experience on our rapidly expanding technical documentation portal, including user interface design, search optimization, and evaluation of taxonomy.

 

The Person

 

The candidate should be a dynamic, innovative individual with a solid knowledge of user experience and, ideally, the needs of technical content. Must have demonstrated success in driving a streamlined interface design and customizations for content findability.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate a track record of success, strength, and aptitude relevant to the following areas:

•              Assist in setting strategy and design for user experience on the AMD Technical Information Portal, bringing fresh perspective based on UX-specific experience. This includes but isn’t limited to:

o             Optimization of multi-faceted taxonomy metadata architecture that drives the Portal’s user interface, its navigation, and search function and results.

o             Significantly contribute to the user interface design of all elements impacted by the portal’s expansion to include numerous additional product areas.

o             User interface analysis and design of usability improvements.

•              Holistic review of the current AMD Technical Information Portal’s user interface and architecture to provide experienced, external UX perspective to complement and enhance internal direction.

•              Provide UX perspective towards planning with cross-functional development and architecture teams regarding improvements to doc content access in tools UI(s).

•              Participate as a contributing member of the top-level staff of the Technical Documentation and Localization organization.

 

Preferred Experience

 

•              Experience designing website navigation for large repositories of content.

•              Experience with search design and SEO.

•              Experience working with and optimizing large taxonomies.

•              Experience working with websites that provide end-user technical documentation.

•              Experience with the Fluid Topics platform is a plus.

•              Knowledge of semiconductors is not necessary but is a plus.

•              Experience contributing to definition and implementation of strategic solutions.

•              Experience managing one’s own workload utilizing collaborative platforms (e.g. Confluence, Jira).

•              Experience in collaborative team environments.

•              Excellent organizational, decision-making, and time management skills.

•              Ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues and projects.

•              Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Academic Credentials

 

•              BA in technical communication, English, information design, or related field – OR – other related combination of experience and education.
